EPISODE 2 RECAP "The Scheme"
He’s happy to inform her that his family is in the construction business and he would love to talk about possibly working together (over coffee perhaps?). But she declines saying she’s busy and he should just call her since he has her number. She turns to her car and leaves him smiling like an idiot.
At the rehabilitation center we saw last episode, which is also Ramon’s mansion estate, he and Vanessa talk over champagne about how they're gonna destroy James using her beauty. He gives her a diamond necklace and he lifts up her shirt and sees a bruise(from zip lining). He gets irrationally mad that she would do something that reckless and warns her to be careful if she doesn't want James to discover her secret.
Ramon shows his mom(Regina) the bruise. He already restricted Vanessa from any physical contact but she tells him that Vanessa is trying to get a man to fall in love with her again, so that would be impossible. She reminds him that this Vanessa is not the real Vanessa who left him.
That jolts Ramon’s memory and we flashback to 5 years ago. The (real)Vanessa goes to Ramon’s office and he’s instantly mesmerized by her. (Can her hoop earrings be any bigger??) She shows him her boobjob that another plastic surgeon(who may or may not be a licensed doctor) worked on and asks him if it looks too irregular, he observes it while she explains that she got it done because she's a new fashion show model.
She asks him if his fees are expensive but he tells her that he would fix her boobjob for free if she goes out with him and of course she would and hugs him out of excitement. Pretty sure that's against the law or at least it's unethical to date your patients. Anyway, moving on...
Still in flashback, Vanessa tells a friend at a party about her free boobjob in exchange for going out with Ramon but she finds him really creepy. Ramon hears this exchange and Vanessa angrily tells him that he’s not her type. That doesn't make him angry and instead gives her a necklace(the same one we saw earlier) but she doesn’t accept it and tells him to just leave her alone.
The next day, he kidnaps her, brings her to a secluded place and ties her to a chair. If only she just loved him back and agrees to a marriage, he wouldn’t resort to doing this, she retorts that she would never love him and that he has gone insane. Understatement much!
Eventually, Vanessa escapes but we don’t see how since this is just a recollection of Ramon’s memory. Regina tells him that he’s spacing out again and he should not forget that Bernadette is not Vanessa. If he lets his feelings overpower him, everything they work for would be useless. She sometimes regrets that she allowed him to use Vanessa’s face for their subjects. Half of her life is already wasted by their experiment; she can’t waste any more time so they have to succeed.
Vanessa visits her mom Eliza at her house with a bouquet of flowers. She introduces herself as Vanessa and that she’s Bernadette’s friend from Canada. Upon hearing that, mom bombards her with questions and tells her how much she misses Bernadette. Vanessa gives her the flowers and greets mom a happy birthday; if it wasn't for Vanessa, mom wouldn’t even remember that today is her birthday. Aww!
At the comfort of her own home, she quietly looks at their family pictures on a tablet when her phone rings and James is on the other line. He’s asking her out to dinner for a business meeting. She complies. In a voice-over, we found out that 2 years have passed since her attempted suicide and her resentment towards James worsened. That resentment is fueling her to destroy him the way he destroyed her.
At the dinner/business meeting, Vanessa and James are discussing about a new condominium unit that his family is building and he’s seeking out her services (for interior design). The project costs a whopping 570 million php and she’s asking for 13% pay cut. He can only do up to 10% but she declines that offer so she gets up to leave and tells him to call her when he’s ready.
Ramon has an unexpected visitor in the form of Hernandez who is a private investigator, asking if he has any news about his mother's’ whereabouts. We learn that Regina has been in hiding(from the law?) for 25 years and that Hernandez received an anonymous tip that someone saw her inside the mansion. Ramon tells him that there’s no way that he can hide his mom for so many years, he has accepted that his parents are gone so he should too.
Apparently, when Mom went out to the garden for some fresh air that was when she was spotted by the tipster. She’s incredulous that Hernandez is still looking for her; she can't stand the thought of getting caught. The only way to prevent that is if Ramon changes her face through surgery like he did with Bernadette/Vanessa but Ramon can't operate on his mom until he’s sure that no more side effects are gonna occur on Bernadette’s face.
Vanessa tells Ramon about the dinner meeting and how she’s gonna destroy James, she’s gonna hurt him far worse than he hurt her, the kind of hurt that will never go away no matter how many times he jumps off a bridge. Ramon is clearly enjoying all of this.
James talks to his friend Timothy(Kerbie Zamora) about how he’s having a hard time wooing Vanessa. Timothy gives him the advice to just ignore her until she comes to him. James follows his advice and it works on Vanessa, she goes to his office and they talk about the 13% offer she made. He’s okay with it but his parents are not. She lowers it down to 5% and that’s the lowest she could go.
He invites her to dinner with his parents to talk about the project and apparently it’s also for his birthday. Only 2 episodes in and we already had 4 birthdays, this could be a drinking game.
Ramon is mad that Vanessa agreed to a low 5% but she says that she learned it from him; the art of war. She’s letting James believe that he has the upper hand so that it would hurt more when he loses; it hurts more when you don't anticipate your enemy’s move.
At his birthday party, James introduces Vanessa to his family. They talk about interior design; James and family are very impressed at Vanessa’s intensive knowledge of the subject.
James is on the phone with a guy who is apparently following Vanessa wherever she goes. The guy lists all the things she did earlier that day and it’s a very detailed report. James instructs the guy to call him if there’s an emergency; he ends the call and goes to bed.
Back at the party, Timothy tells James that now he knows why he’s so head over heels for Vanessa, he describes her as a goddess but it must be hard to have a girlfriend so beautiful and intelligent. It puts James in a sour mood and when Vanessa sits beside him by the poolside, she takes note of this. He tells her that he likes her but he’s no match for her; she's way out of his league. She agrees and tells him that what she needs from a guy is confidence and a guy who would do anything for her. She orders him to take her home.
Ramon is having a nightmare about an incident in his childhood, he sees his dad beating up his mom and all he could do is cry and watch from afar; his dad also proceeds to beat him and young Ramon exclaims that he’s gonna kill him, we hear a loud bang(gunshot?) from the nightmare and this wakes Ramon from his bad dream. His mom goes inside the room and comforts him.
After taking her home, James apologizes to Vanessa; he changed his mind about pursuing her because he’s intimidated. This angers her because she didn’t ask him to pursue her anyway and how could he just reject her like that. He kisses her and quickly pulls away but she pulls him back and they kiss again.
They go inside her house and have sex. Ramon receives a text from the phone guy earlier reporting that James is inside Vanessa’s house and he hasn't come out in 4 hours; that could only mean one thing. Ramon throws his phone in anger.
