Ranking Toni Gonzaga’s Star Cinema films Part 2

Mediocre List

This list is for Toni Gonzaga's Star Cinema movies that are just okay; not perfect but also not bad either.

You Got Me! (2007)

This was Toni’s 2nd collaboration with Sam Milby and unlike their first movie ‘You Are The One’, this fell short of being amazing. Both their acting and chemistry were great, the story was okay but the pacing was slow and the performance of their co-star Zanjoe Marudo, who completed the movie’s love triangle, was flat. This was Zanjoe’s debut movie so it was expected that he would be the weak link.

This was also Toni’s first try at a policeman role, she did okay but there were times that she wasn’t believable as a cop. Plus, the so-called action scenes were badly directed and choreographed. I don’t know if that was intentional because this is a rom-com flick but if it was meant to be serious, then they failed. This is still a fun movie to watch just don’t take it too seriously.

Box Office Gross: N/A

Personal Rating: 6/10

D’ Anothers (2005)

A comedy with a little bit of action and romance. This is such a really ridiculous movie but still enjoyable to watch. This is Toni’s first Star Cinema film and her first collaboration with Vhong Navarro.
The last time I watched this was a really long time ago so I only have a few words for to describe it; it’s kind of forgettable in a good way because when you rewatch it, you're sure to laugh at all the jokes again.

Box Office Gross: 85 million php

Personal Rating: 6/10

Four Sisters and a Wedding (2013)

A movie with a lot of heart. A comedy where family is at the center of it and not romance. Unlike all of her movies, Toni doesn’t share the screen time with a leading man but 3 other leading ladies, namely Angel Locsin, Bea Alonzo and Shaina Magdayao. They are really believable as 4 sisters who bicker and fight but at the end of the day, they would still have each other’s back.

This is a feel-good movie that will not only make you laugh your heart out but will also make you cry buckets and buckets of tears. It's a perfect movie for families to watch together. The only complaint that I have and the reason for the rating; some characters are underdeveloped while some were really badly-written and terribly acted.

Box Office Gross: 145 million php

Personal Rating: 7/10

My Amnesia Girl (2010)

Such a sweet and adorable movie. Toni's first movie collaboration with John Lloyd Cruz and their chemistry was just spot-on. If she were to reunite with a male lead for another SC rom-com, my first choice would be John Lloyd. They're currently playing a married couple in ABS-CBN's saturday sitcom 'Home Sweetie Home' and they're just like their characters from this movie.

There were definitely a lot of the typical rom-com cliches but they both made it different with their chemistry and acting. They delivered all the pick-up lines, no matter how corny and even cringe worthy, seamlessly that I didn't even mind the rushed and anti-climatic ending. This is a great movie date for friends and couples; you would even wished that the movie had a longer running time.

Box Office Gross: 144 million php

Personal Rating: 7.5/10

Starting Over Again (2014)

Toni's most successful movie to date, it earned a whooping 491 million php at the box office. This was a highly anticipated movie because for the first time she reunited with Piolo Pascual after their famous Sprite commercial in 2001.

I really enjoyed the hell out of this movie but I gave it a low rating simply because it was bloated, it ran too long and it was over-dialogued. This is a movie with a very talked about ending because it's different than how all of Toni's other films ended and because a lot of people expected it to end the way a rom-com commonly does; how it ended is definitely the ending that is fitting and perfect for the film.
