Ranking Toni Gonzaga’s Star Cinema films Part 1

Quick intro. Toni Gonzaga is one of the most bankable film actress of her generation. She has done 11 movies produced by the juggernaut production company 'Star Cinema' and each one of them is either critically acclaimed, a commercial success or both. So, just for fun and because I have recently completed her filmography, here is my ranking of her Star Cinema films from worst to best:

Worst list

This list is for Toni Gonzaga's Star Cinema movies that are forgettable and would be best classified as a time-waster.

Ang Tanging Pamilya: A Marry Go Round (2009)

Oy. I really, really wanted to like this but it was such a mess. You would think that Toni and Sam Milby's(her frequent SC loveteam) 4th romcom collaboration would be nothing but amazing as evidenced by the last 3 movies they did together, but their pairing couldn't save this failure of a movie.

It was obvious that this movie was made solely to give Dionisia Pacquiao a debut film; and why not? She is Manny Pacquiao's mother after all. I couldn't even remember how it ended or probably I just fell asleep halfway through. This movie was a total waste of Toni's talents and here's hoping her next movie wouldn't be as awful as this one.

Box Office Gross: 79 million php

Personal Rating: 4/10

Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi (2011)

Toni Gonzaga plus Eugene Domingo; both actress excel in the comedy department and it was proven in this movie. They both did justice to their characters and they never failed to bring in the laughs. But, this movie was too cliche and repetitive that it's not really worth rewatching the whole thing.

This is Toni's least commercially successful film, it failed to rake in at least 50 million in the whole month it showed in theatres and the reviews were mixed; but if you're in the mood and you want to waste 2 hours, this is the perfect movie to pass the time with.

Box Office Gross: 32 million php

Personal Rating: 5/10

This Guy's in Love with U Mare (2012)

This was an entertaining movie, it's laugh out loud hilarious and it was fun from beginning to end. But, like the 2 movie on this list, it's ultimately forgettable and it didn't really bring anything new.

Basically, it's all about Vice Ganda's situational jokes, the usual Filipino physical comedy all the way down to the typical rom-com ending. A total popcorn flick but it's worth the watch\ for Toni and 2 hours of hearty laughter.

Box Office Gross: 238 million php

Personal Rating: 5.5/10
