This is, hands down, the best episode of Jasmine (so far). Suspense, mystery, action and even comedy, this episode has all that and more. Just I was
beginning to get uninterested, and frankly bored, this episode came at just the
right time. Why couldn't we have Robin Padilla sooner?
EPISODE 7 RECAP
The Chief and Agila are angrily discussing Maskara’s case;
they both blame each other for losing him and Jasmine. Agila is confident that
they will close this case; all they need is a scapegoat. Ohh! So Julius was
right, Agila and the Chief are corrupt and they intend to bury this case as
soon as possible. Chief orders Osorio to hand all the evidence, he gathered for
Maskara’s case, to Agila’s team and he has no choice but to comply.
Steven gets ready for an interview for Showbiz Police (to ask for the public’s help to find Jasmine) and
Carly advises him not to get too antsy, he needs his game face on and to focus,
this is the only thing they can do to find Jasmine. Alexis walks in on them and
he’s antsier than Steven as he tells them that all their efforts, to find
Jasmine, are not good enough.
Jacinto watches Steven’s interview at a resto and he notices
a pair of disguised cops tailing him. Thinking fast, he heads to the bathroom
to escape and the cops report in that they lost Jacinto.
Osorio overhears the Chief and Agila talking about Jacinto
and the gist of it is they’ll use him for Maskara’s case. Osorio calls Jacinto
to warn him that the NBI are coming to arrest him and Jacinto surprises him by
saying that he’s waiting for them any minute now. Jacinto tells him to get
ready because it’s ‘Action time!’ Expectedly, the cops burst into his room to
arrest him.
Agila interrogates Jacinto and asks him where he hid the
necklace(Maskara’s). Jacinto feigns
ignorance which makes Agila lash out at him. Unbeknownst to Agila, while he was
questioning Jacinto, he was working on getting out of his handcuffs so when
Agila gets closer, Jacinto puts the handcuffs in his wrists and shoves him on
the floor. Jacinto grabs Agila’s things and quickly bolts out of there.
When another cop unties him, Agila orders all his units to
catch Jacinto but they’re too late, he’s already rescued by Osorio and they
drive away in his motorcycle. Jacinto orders his cops to release an APB for
Jacinto and Osorio which means our Rogue duo are now considered as suspects for
Jasmine’s kidnapping.
Steven and Carly thanks Wendell for his efforts to help find
Jasmine but they still worry that they might not find her and there’s not much
else they can do. Wendell is wondering the same thing as I am: Where exactly is
Alexis? And what is he doing to find Jasmine?
Osorio and Jacinto enlists Wendell’s help as they ask him
for their(TV5’s) video archives. They watch an old video of the ‘Mutya ng
Maynila’ pageant, where Elaine Marasigan(EM) won. They see her wearing the
necklace Maskara gave to Jasmine, as Jacinto explains to Wendell that Elaine is
connected to Maskara.
Jacinto gives Wendell a phone so he can contact them when
the NBI arrives to collect the video and he asks Wendell to be their spy and
relay all the information he finds out from them. And there’s more, Jacinto
tells Wendell that if the NBI finds out that he’s in cahoots with them, tell
the NBI that he(Osorio) pointed a gun at him. Osorio: “Why me?” Jacinto: “Because
you have the gun.” Hee!
Osorio gets in Jacinto’s car to continue their rogue
operation and he brought another passenger: Carly, who demands an explanation from
them. Why are the NBI hunting them?
We finally see Jasmine who’s tied up to a chair in Maskara’s
dark and creepy lair. She struggles to get out of her bonds when Maskara
approaches her. Jasmine asks why he’s doing this; what does he want from her?:
Maskara: I keep telling you before, over and over again, that everything I did was all for you but you never understood. When I first saw you, all I wanted to do was to help you; I wanted to help advance your career. And then, I felt I needed to protect you too.
Jasmine: Protect me? From who?
Maskara: From everyone! What you don’t notice is you’re surrounded by bad people.
Jasmine: And you're one of them!
Maskara: Don't compare me to them because I only did all of this for you because I love you. When we first met, I knew we were meant to be.
Maskara
points to his wall of crazy(various pictures of Jasmine) and tells her that all
of this is for her. He goes on to say that they came from the same place; the
theatre(play). He adds that when he first saw her, he knew that his mission in
life was to nurture and protect her. He slowly caresses Jasmine face and she
bites her hand in retaliation.
This makes
Maskara crazy in anger as he throws things all while saying that he did all
this for her and she doesn’t understand him. Jasmine just screams that he did
all of this for his own insanity. Maskara tells her that they should finish
this and leaves her alone.
Our Rogue duo and Carly head to a resto to convene. Jacinto
warns Carly that she better leave them alone if she doesn’t want to be hunted
by the NBI too. Carly tells him that it’s okay if she becomes an accessory to
their crimes (because she wants to do everything she can to find Jasmine).
Awww! I. Love. Her.
Jacinto shares what he found out; Elaine Marasigan passed
away a long time ago but she has a brother named ‘Jonas’ who lives in Metro Manila
and she also has a son named ‘Paulo’. But the problem is, there’s so many Paulo
Marasigan in Manila.
So, their plan is to find Jonas first. Carly gets up and
tells them to get the move on but Osorio replies that Jacinto needs to finish
his 2 bottles(of rum) before they can go, since he moves faster after 2
bottles. Lol! Carly wonders how they’re gonna evade the NBI but Jacinto already
has a plan.
Cut to: Wendell who asks Agila to let him tag along with their
operation, under the guise of making a documentary (since this is a
high-profile case after all). Agila is unsure at first but gives in when he
finds out that he’s gonna be seen on national television. Our Rogue team is
more than happy with this new development since with Wendell’s intel, they’ll
be one step ahead of Agila.
Our Rogue team, minus Carly who stays in the car, trespasses
inside Jonas’ house. I love how serious and physical Jacinto gets when he jumps
over the wall, only to find out that the main gate is unlocked and the same
thing with the main door, he’s ready to kick it open when Osorio stops him
because it’s also unlocked.
No one is inside as they survey the place, they come across
a room with its own wall of crazy(various pictures of not only Jasmine’s but
also of Elaine’s). Agila gets informed that a team of NBI is headed to Jonas’
house. Uh oh. Luckily, Wendell overhears and he alerts Osorio right away but
it’s too late, the NBI discovers that Osorio is in the house and they tie him
to a chair.
Jacinto knocks the two officers down, without even breaking
a sweat, and he unties Osorio. Suddenly, an old man walks in, and luckily this
is the Jonas they’re looking for. They ask him about Paulo and he tells them
that Paulo used to visit him before. Jonas hands them a paper bag, Paulo gave
him, containing cut-outs with Jasmine’s face on them.
Jacinto asks Jonas where Paulo is staying right now, we don’t
get to hear his answer but our Rogue team heads to his location.
Jasmine, using a knife she found, successfully breaks off
her bonds and she cautiously finds a way out of Maskara’s lair. A short time
later, Maskara comes back and freaks out when he finds Jasmine’s gone and he
starts looking for her.
Jasmine continues to look for a way out with Maskara chasing
after her, just a few steps behind.
COMMENTS
Aside from what I mentioned above, this ep
also had a quick pacing due to the tight editing and the dialogues were not as
forced and awkward as before. I attribute the show’s increased quality mostly to Robin
Padilla who just keeps you glued to the screen. He has the perfect chemistry
with everyone and his innate acting is just so effortless and winning. (Plus his adlibs are so hilarious and spot on, complete with funny hand motions delivered at just the right moment).
I especially love the scenes between Wendell and Jacinto
because they’re both witty and sarcastic. I wanted to transcript their full
exchange but it’s not as funny in English as it is in Tagalog.
I noticed during Jasmine and Maskara’s lair scene, Maskara
sounded a lot like Alwyn Uytingco(Wendell) even if they used an audio changer
to tweak his voice. I’m not sure if it’s intentional or just a coincidence
because I really don’t believe that Wendell is our Maskara. Unless Wendell
somehow found a way to be at two places at once.
Speaking of which; where the hell did Alexis go after his
little kerfuffle with Steven? I also don’t believe that he’s Maskara because it’s
just too contrived and I desperately want an actual plot twist, especially when
we only have 1 episode remaining until the finale.
