Currently Watching: Pari Koy, Forevermore

It's Labor Day yesterday which means no work today and I've finally caught up with all of my teleseryes but I only want to talk about these 2 dramas:

1) Pari Koy

I've wanted to write about this one but didn't have the time before. This show is honestly so underrated and deserves more audience. I initially passed on this because I feared that it would be too preachy because of its religious theme but it turned out to be quite the opposite and it surprisingly became an enjoyable watch every night.

The storylines and subplots are engaging, the characters are flawed but relatable and well-written, the actors are generally great and as always titular lead Dingdong Dantes (Pari Kokoy) is nailing it.

Recap of Friday's (May 1) episode:

Simon is still a huge abusing, insecure douchebag of a husband to Noemi and she has no choice but to put up with it because of fear for her and their daughter's lives.

And, now that her ex-boyfriend, Matthew, is back in the picture, things are just gonna get more worse before they get better. Especially because Matthew is the complete opposite of Simon in every way.

Pari Koy finally meets his first love and ex-girlfriend, Michelle, who as fate would have it is now the current girlfriend of the corrupt Brgy. Pinagpala Captain Jude. While Pari Koy is glad to see Michelle, she in turn is not and gives him a cold hard slap in the face.

Which in my opinion he did deserve because he lied by omission to her about being a soon to be priest when they were together 8 years ago which led to their eventual break-up.

But unknown to her then, he actually decided to leave priesthood to be with her but it was too late, she left town and never came back because unknown to him, it was revealed that Michelle was possibly pregnant (because this is a teleserye, I'm betting she is.)

I'm so excited for the continuation of their story line because I really did not see that one coming, I already have a suspicion on who the possible child is but I'm just gonna have to wait for the actual reveal.

This was, as usual, a great week for Pari Koy and I can only hope the writers keep up the consistent pacing, momentum and balanced storylines for the rest of the series.

2) Forevermore

"Pucha naman, Agnes!!!" -Xander (April 29 ep)

I was hopping with joy when Xander quoted (with passion) the line above because I've been waiting for their confrontation scene for God knows how long now which is why I really loved Wednesday's episode even if I was thrown off by a character's death at the end.

More important things happened in that episode and in this week than in the past month of dragging the story because of an extension that is slowly killing the show and what made it great in the first place.

The break-up was inevitable because of the amounting conflicts the couple faced  (and because this is a teleserye, of course they have to be separated) but what happened after and when they meet again was handled and executed rather poorly.

I can probably go on an endless rant but now that everything is out in the open and we're back in Sitio La Presa, the show can only get better. Right? I'm hoping it does!

Recap of Friday's (May 1) episode:

Karen and Jay visit Agnes and the La Presa family and they have a group sing-along. Jay is eager to help out (for brownie points with the gang), he energetically joins the group sing-along and even comes up with a 'great song' with the lyrics consisting of only 2 words: 'great' and 'song'.

If that's not enough, he does a weird hand and body motion which he quotes is a way 'to reconnect with his inner soul'. I'm not sure whether to find that endearing, be amused or shake my head at the pretentiousness....but, everybody actually joins in too except for Agnes who looks mysteriously at Jay.

Andrew: "Kung gusto mo siya, sabihin mo. Kung ayaw mo, sabihin mo pa rin." (If you like him then tell him. If you don't, still tell him.)

So, following Andrew's advice Agnes tells Jay that she's not ready to love again but he doesn't mind, he'll just continue to wait and love her one-sidedly.

Xander and his 'super friends' party at a night club but Xander is too sad and mopey to have fun. He is then advised by an apparently wise and all knowing beggar, yup! a beggar (in a serious tone no less), that somewhere farther up (Hmmm, I'm guessing Baguio) is where he'll find his future and the girl he'll love for the rest of his life. Bwahaha!! Did that just happen?

His friends set him up on a ton of blind dates but he's not interested in any of the girls and because of a business emergency, Xander immediately drives to Baguio where he almost runs over a crossing pedestrian.

Why, hello there Erich Gonzales. It's so nice to see you!

-------------

Hmmm, let me just take a moment to soak all that in....

That beggar scene though, WTF? Really, writers? You can't come up with a better way to re-affirm that our OTP is meant and fated to be together.

As if the beggar is actually referring to the new female character since she's just another plot device but I'm so glad that she's played by Erich whose casting was a welcome sight and a nice surprise (atleast for me since I'm not following this show on social media).

She was always a treat to watch onscreen even in her last teleserye where she played the vindictive, narcissistic antagonist.

I don't know why we're being shoved a lot of Jay (and his grating 'dude, dudeee, DUDE!!!') because the character already overstayed his purpose; another plot device. It would help if the actor has enough onscreen presence, much better at acting and if Jay and Agnes have chemistry but they don't.

Agnes basically just emoted her way through this episode
There are 3 more weeks of this show but I'm holding out hope that it atleast ends on a high note or atleast not end up becoming a frustrating crapfest.
