"The Gifted" is about two girls who are gifted
with extremely high IQ, the fat kid, Zoe Tuazon (Anne Curtis) and the nerd, Aica Tabayoyong (Cristine Reyes). They are the best of friends until campus
heartthrob, Mark Ferrer (Sam Milby)
comes in between them! Soon enough, Zoe and Aica have parted ways.
And the question is: Will their friendship be mended or will this cause more trouble?
Judging from the (overly narrated) trailer, it’s the latter, obviously!
They
could have just titled this film ‘No Other Woman Part 2’ because it’s basically
just the same film with a few modifications.
Same
actresses:
Same storyline – two girls fighting over a guy but with
added (artificial) depth by making both of them geniuses with own physical flaws (and to prove they're super smart, they can solve a rubik's cube in a few seconds!)
Same catfights – but this time in a swimming pool (and with fire power!)
Same one-upmanship: (fashion, romantic dates, sexy times)
The only major differences are the girls were best of
friends and neither of them is married to the main guy.
Cristine’s and Sam’s characters happily dated but Anne’s
character intervened thus the break-up and years later (after major plastic
surgery), they’ll fight for the same guy again. And said guy could just chose
one or the other but like in No Other Woman, he’s gonna play with both of them.
Speaking of the main guy, I preferred if it was Dingdong Dantes
(the first choice) rather than Sam Milby because I’m really tired of the constant
Anne-Sam pairing. And also because on the acting front, Dingdong totally acts
circles around Sam. Just sayin’!
Am I gonna watch this movie? Hell yeah, I am! But not for
the plot because, let’s be honest, who actually watches this kind of movies for
the story?
We’re obviously gonna watch it for Anne Curtis and her glorious and 'gifted' bod:
‘The Gifted’ premieres on September 3 nationwide. (Just 3 more weeks!)
