A to Z (NBC - 2014) First Impressions

Out of all the new US shows premiering this season, “A to Z” is the only one that got me really excited and it was solely because of Cristin Milioti (who is widely known as ‘the best thing about HIMYM’s final season’).

I just love her so much that I would watch anything she’s in, even if it’s a total crapfest, but luckily the pilot episode (titled: "A is for Acquaintances") of A to Z was delightfully zippy, charming and fun.

What’s the show about?

“A to Z” follow the lives of Andrew (Ben Feldman) , an employee at an internet dating site who dreams of meeting the girl of his dreams, and Zelda (Cristin Milioti), a no-nonsense lawyer who was raised by a hippie mother and carries a rebellious streak.

By an accidental chance of fate, Zelda meets Andrew to resolve a mismatch dating dispute and these two single people suddenly find themselves falling for each other.

It’s basically HIMYM: The Dating Years. And how I wish Josh Radnor (HIMYM’s Ted Mosby) was the male lead instead of Ben Feldman (who I also like but Cristin has better chemistry with Josh).

And like HIMYM, A to Z has its own narrator (Katey Sagal) who’s mostly there for exposition and to remind us that “Andrew and Zelda will date for eight months, three weeks, five days, and one hour. This television program is the comprehensive account of their relationship, from A to Z.”

She’s probably gonna say that at the end of each episode and it will get annoying at some point. But it adds a mystery to the show: what’s gonna happen to the couple after they date for almost nine months?

Will they break-up? Or will they get engaged? My vote is for the latter because it only makes sense for the second season (hopefully it gets renewed) to detail their engagement rather than to detail the aftermath of their break-up.

I really like the first episode; Cristin and Ben already have that winning chemistry, and I’m just so glad to have her back on my screen again.
