Ranking Bea Alonzo’s Star Cinema films Part 1

Bea Alonzo is currently knocking it out of the park in the ridiculously titled 'Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon'. Despite the meddling premise and repetitive story arcs, the drama is still worth the watch solely for Bea's character(s) and performance.

She has always been great, and in fact, she's one of Star Cinema's most bankable actresses with superior acting chops to boot. She has done 15 SC films and I've watched 11 of them so, like I did before, just for fun, here is my ranking of her Star Cinema films from worst to best:

Worst list

This list is for Bea Alonzo's Star Cinema movies that are forgettable and would be best classified as a time-waster.

Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak! (2011)

Vic Sotto has always been a 'miss' for me, I have never liked any of his movies that didn't include "Enteng Kabisote" in the main title so this one is a total miss for me. Nevermind the fact that it's Vic's comeback to Star Cinema after 14 years, it's just the same movie filled with slapstick, usual unfunny comic sidekicks and flat jokes that he has been yearly churning out for decades.

As for Bea Alonzo, she did okay in the movie, as the female lead, with the meager screentime she was given.

Box Office Gross: 72 million php

Personal Rating: 3/10

Miss You Like Crazy (2010)

There was nothing wrong with this movie, per se, other than it's dull and ultimately forgettable. This is her 6th SC collaboration with her first and long-time onscreen partner, John Lloyd Cruz, so I expected more.

The movie was slow, inconsistent and I didn't have any emotional connection with the leads which is bizarre because I always connected with all of JLC and Bea's characters before. I didn't care if their characters ended up together and I don't really remember if they did. (or didn't)

Box Office Gross: 143 million php

Personal Rating: 5/10

Pacquiao The Movie (2006)

This heavily dramatized "true" story of Philippine's national hero, Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao, flopped in the box office which is really not that surprising since a lot of people already know Pacquiao's personal life and wouldn't bother to pay (and waste their money) to watch it on the big screen.

Jericho Rosales starred as Pacquiao and Bea Alonzo played the double role of his wife, Jinkee and her identical twin sister Janet. They both did okay with their respective roles and they had enough chemistry to act as husband and wife.

Box Office Gross: N/A

Personal Rating: 5/10
